CBI questions SP Sujith Das in Tamir Jifri case

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is indicated that the CBI has interrogated former SP Sujith Das in connection with the Tanur custodial death case. He was called to the office in Thiruvananthapuram for interrogation. This was in the context of a phone conversation he had with MLA PV Anvar.

It was on August 1 last year that a young man named Tamir Jifri died in police custody in Tanur, Malappuram. Upon finding that it was a case of custodial torture, the CBI had earlier arrested Jinesh, Albin Augustine, Abhimanyu, and Vipin, who were members of the SP’s special team and civil police officers.

Sujith’s phone conversation, in which he said he would be subservient to Anwar if the complaint against him was withdrawn, had caused embarrassment for the police force. Anwar had alleged that Sujith’s DANSAF squad was involved in stealing the majority of the gold seized at the Karipur airport. Customs initiated an investigation against Sujith after discovering that up to 300 grams of gold was missing from every kilogram of gold seized. He was suspended for a serious breach of conduct.
