German luxury car manufacturer, Audi, will launch its compact sedan A3 in India within a few months. The A3 will be showcased at the upcoming Delhi Auto Expo and will be subsequently launched commercially.
A3 is expected to be its cheapest sedan. At present, the Q3 S is the cheapest Audi available at Rs. 24.99 lakh.
Audi on Monday launched its most powerful sportscar Audi RS 7 Sportback at Rs. 1.29 crore. The 560 horsepower RS 7 has the top speed of 305 kilometre per hour.
Joe King, head of Audi India, said the company would open at least six new dealerships in the country this year, taking its dealer network to 40. Audi had opened 11 new dealerships in 2013. “We will go to tier 2 and tier 3 cities this year,” he said.
“We see similar growth this year. Although during elections we may see some form of slowdown. But it will pick up later,” King said. Audi ended 2013 with 10,002 unit sales, growing 11% over its sales volume in 2012.
The first ever luxury carmaker to cross 10,000 mark a year, Audi, maintained a clear lead over its nearest rival Mercedes Benz.
King, however, was non-committal about Audi introducing its hatchback models in India. “We focus more on sedan. We see there will be a lot of potential for A3,” he said.
