Kolkata: All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Derek O’Brien on Saturday warned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Amit Shah of legal action if he fails to apologise for “blatantly lying” during the latter’s visit to West Bengal earlier in the day.
“Amit Shah‘s meeting was a flop show, he has insulted Bengal today. He doesn’t understand the culture of Bengal and even insulted it with his blatant lies. If he doesn’t apologise within the next 72 hours we will take legal action against him,” he said at a press conference here.
Brien further accused Shah of spreading communal disharmony in other states and said that the same would not be accepted in Bengal.
“He (Shah) should have a look at his own track record first before spreading such lies about us,” he added.
Derek’s comments came after Shah attacked West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for opposing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and accused her of compromising the interests of Indians in Assam and West Bengal for her vote bank politics.
“Corruption is flourishing in the state since the party came to power. Ever since Banerjee became the chief minister of the state, West Bengal has seen scam after scam,” the BJPChief said while addressing a rally in Kolkata earlier in the day.
