Kochi: In a significant turn of events in the 2017 actress attack case, a forensic report has hinted that the evidence had been tampered with. The report pointed out that the hash value of the memory card containing the visuals of the incident had changed three times and the memory card was used in a Vivo phone and computer during that time.
Though Crime Branch has resorted to initiating further investigation regarding this, the final decision will be taken by the High Court. The owner of the mobile phone mentioned in the report and those who used the memory card in the computer have to be found out to unveil the mystery behind accessing the memory card.
The 8GB memory card of SanDisk contains eight videos and all of them were captured while attacking the actress. The hash value of the memory card was changed when it was opened thrice while kept under the court’s custody. Along with this, more folders were spotted as created in it. The forensic report also revealed that the memory card was used at night twice.
The memory card was first accessed when it was under the custody of the Angamali magistrate court. It was also opened while kept under the protection of the district court and the trial court. The hash value of the memory card was recorded in the Mahazar when it was seized. This hash value will not be the same if used by installing on any mobile phones, computers, or similar gadgets.
If the officials use the memory cards preserved in the custody of police and court for investigation, the changing hash values will be recorded. In this case, the unrecorded change in the hash value suggests illegal access to the memory card.
