Egyptian security forces clear Morsi’s suppoters off Cairo mosque

Cairo: Egyptian security forces stormed a mosque in Cairo where hundreds of supporters of deposed President Mohammed Mursi were holed up. Security forces said, Al-Fateh mosque near Ramses Square in central Cairo was cleared off Mursi supporters last night.

They said, all protesters were taken out of the mosque and many were arrested. Nearly 180 people have been killed in street battles across Egypt since Friday’s mass protest. Interim Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi proposed legally dissolving the Muslim Brotherhood, which is demanding the reinstatement of Morsi.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has expressed alarm at the turmoil in Egypt and excessive use of force in handling them. He strongly condemned attacks on churches, hospitals, and other public facilities.

UK also condemned all acts of violence in Egypt, whether by the security forces or demonstrators. British Foreign Secretary William Hague called attacks on mosques and churches unacceptable.
