Newdelhi: Gujarat government has suspended senior IPS officer PP Pandey, who was remanded to CBI custody in Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case. A senior government official said, an IPS officer, who is in jail for more than 48 hours, is deemed to be suspended.
Pandey was an additional director general of police in the state. Our Ahmedabad Correspondent reports that Pandey went underground in April this year after his name surfaced in Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case.
Earlier, he appeared before the special CBI court in Ahmedabad following Supreme Court direction. But after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the CBI court, high court, as well as Supreme Court, he surrendered before the CBI court last week.
Yesterday, Court remanded him to CBI custody for interrogation till 21st August. He was Joint Commissioner of Police in Ahmedabad Crime Branch when Mumbai-based college girl Ishrat Jahan and three others were gunned down by city crime branch in 2004.
Gujarat Police then claimed that they were terrorists but CBI later concluded that the four were killed in a fake encounter.
