New Delhi: Parliament is likely today to pass a resolution against Pakistan, condemning the recent ambush of five Indian soldiers in Poonch in Kashmir, and a series of violations by Pakistan of the ceasefire along the Line of Control.

India’s action today will counter a resolution issued in Islamabad on Tuesday which criticised “the unprovoked aggression by Indian military forces across the Line of Control in recent days.””There is no partisanship in  the Pakistan Assembly resolution. This has to be condemned. We have spoken to the Speaker. India is planning to counter Pakistan’s resolution with a similar resolution,” said Kamal Nath, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs.

India has said that on August 6, specialist troops of the Pakistani army crossed the Line of Control and killed five soldiers who were patrolling in Poonch. Hours after Defence Minister AK Antony warned that India’s restraint should not be taken for granted, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had issued a statement that called for both sides to take urgent steps to restore the ceasefire.  He had also said that he was looking forward to meeting Dr Manmohan Singh in New York next month on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
