Iran interim nuclear deal to come into effect on Jan 20th

Iran has said that the interim nuclear deal agreed upon with the six major world powers will come into effect from the 20th of this month. Quoting the Head of the Iranian negotiating team Hamid Baaedinejad, Iran’s official news agency, IRNA said that the two sides have managed to reach an understanding on the implementation of the agreement. The date is yet to be approved by the political leadership.

The announcement comes a day after technical experts from Iran and the six major world powers reported good progress in the talks. They are discussing in Geneva, ways and means to implement the interim nuclear deal on Teheran’s nuclear programme.

Under the deal, Iran will scale down parts of its programme in exchange for a limited relief in sanctions over a six month period. The six month period will be utilized for a comprehensive agreement.
