Jammu: In Jammu and Kashmir, curfew has been imposed in Jammu city and Rajouri town following incidents of arson in the wake of clashes between two groups of people in Kishtwar on Friday. Army was called in late last night.

Curfew was imposed in Reasi and Katra towns this morning as a precautionary measure.

Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Shant Manu said, curfew in Jammu and Rajouri was imposed last night after two vehicles were torched in new plot area of Jammu city and attempts were made to set ablaze some shops.

Seven persons, including a senior police officer, sustained injuries during clashes, lathi-charge and tear-gas shelling in Jammu city.

Police said, in Rajouri town, curfew was imposed as a precautionary measure. Demonstrations were held in Jammu and adjoining districts which observed bandh in protest against the clashes in Kishtwar.

Curfew continued for the third consecutive day yesterday in Kishtwar town and outskirts as Army staged flag march in disturbed areas.

Disturbances were reported from Paddar, Atholy and Kajai areas of Kishtwar. Six persons were injured in the clashes. State police chief Ashok Prasad is camping in the district to ensure coordination between civil and Army authorities.

Jammu bandh was extended by another 48 hours yesterday. Normal life has been hit in Jammu and adjoining districts due to bandh.

Normal life in Kashmir was affected yesterday following day long strike call by separatist leader Sayed Ali Shah Geelani in protest against clashes in Kishtwar.

Amarnath Yatra has been suspended from Jammu in view of the prevailing situation. No fresh batch of pilgrims was allowed to proceed for the cave shrine yesterday.

However, Budha Amarnath Yatra in Mandi hills of Poonch district will continue.
