Thrissur: Union Minister and actor Suresh Gopi has lodged a complaint against journalists, alleging that they obstructed his path at the Ramanilayam Government Guest House. The complaint was submitted to the Thrissur City Police Commissioner, following an earlier directive from the Commissioner to investigate an incident involving Suresh Gopi’s interaction with journalists at the guest house.
The initial investigation was prompted by a complaint from former MLA and Congress leader Anil Akkara, who raised concerns about Suresh Gopi’s behaviour towards journalists. In response, the Commissioner instructed the Thrissur City ACP to conduct a preliminary inquiry. As part of this investigation, Anil Akkara’s statement is expected to be recorded on Thursday, with statements from media personnel also likely to be taken if deemed necessary. It was in this context that Suresh Gopi filed his complaint against the journalists.
Meanwhile, the central government is reportedly considering an increase in Suresh Gopi’s security. The Centre has sought details regarding the complaint filed by the Union Minister. According to a statement from Suresh Gopi’s office, there was an attempt to assault the Minister and his staff during the incident.
The confrontation occurred yesterday afternoon when Suresh Gopi was leaving the Ramanilayam Guest House. Journalists approached him to ask about the ongoing controversies in the Malayalam film industry and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). Earlier in the day, BJP State President had dismissed some of Suresh Gopi’s responses. Frustrated by the media’s persistence, the Minister reportedly pushed the microphones away, got into his car, and pointedly remarked, “My way is my right, please.” When questioned further, he declined to respond, stating that he was not in a position to answer.
