THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian meteorological department has warned about rain continuing in the state for two more days. Minding this, an Orange alert has been announced in Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.
Wayanad and Kannur districts are on orange alert tomorrow. Apart from Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam, all other districts are on yellow alert today. A yellow alert has been announced in Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kasaragod districts tomorrow.
The Revenue Minister has called a meeting of disaster management department officials to take measures to deal with the damage caused by rain in many parts of the state.
Meanwhile, the rain wreaked havoc in several parts of the state on Wednesday. A widespread landslide occurred near Vadakara Murad Bridge while electricity poles also fell on the ground disrupting power in the area. The landslide fell on the national highway from a height of 15 meters. Landslides occurred in two places and the soil in this region is continuing in a tenuous state. One house in the region is facing danger and the locals are pleading with authorities to do the essential work.
A lump of heavy gravel fell on top of a house in Devikulam Munnar. The stones fell on top of Wilson’s house where the family including his wife and two children escaped unhurt by sheer luck. A similar incident was also reported in Ernakulam Poothrikka.
Pathanamthitta Perunad Arayanjilimon causeway submerged in water. This causeway is the only means for more than 400 families to reach the other side of the water. Water levels in the Pampa and Achankovil rivers have also risen.
