Wild jumbo attack: Karnataka govt announces Rs 15 lakh compensation to kin of Wayanad’s Ajeesh

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government on Sunday directed forest officials to hand over a compensation of Rs 15 lakh to the family of Wayanad man Ajeesh, who was killed in an attackby radio-collared jumbo from the state (Karnataka).

The announcement was made by Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwara Khandre. The minister noted that the relief meant for Karnataka elephant attack victims has been given to Ajeesh by considering it as a special case.

The Kerala government had announced Rs 10 lakh compensation and assured a job to one of Ajeesh’s family members. The government will also bear the educational expenses of his children.

Ajeesh was trampled to death by a wild elephant Belur Makhna last week. The CCTV visuals of the incident showed Ajeesh and others trying to escape from the wild elephant and jumping into the compound of a house. However, the jumbo destroys the compound wall and chases the man.
