MV Govindan condemns cyber attack against KS Chithra, calls singer a “national asset”

Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary M.V. Govindan condemned the cyber attack against singer K.S. Chithra. He opined that it was not ideal to attack a person of her stature.

Chithra recently came under cyber attack over a post on the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya. In her post on social media, the singer requested all to chant hymns praising Lord Ram and light lamps in and around their homes when the event takes place on January 22.However, she faced severe criticism and cyber attacks on social media.

“I already stated my position on the issue when actress Shobana faced criticism for attending a BJP event. She is one of the most popular dancer and actor in the country. They are this nation’s assets. Therefore, targeting them for their views is unnecessary. However, everyone is free to express their opinion,” he said.

The 60-year-old singer is popularly known as the ‘Little Nightingale of India’ and in a career of over four decades has recorded over 25,000 songs in various languages.

She is a recipient of six National Film Awards, nine Filmfare Awards (South) and 36 state film awards from six states in the country.
