NEW DELHI: Employees’ Provident Fund Organization removes Aadhaar from list of accepted documents for proof of date of birth. Based on the instructions received from Unique Identification Authority of India, EPFO has changed the rules so that Aadhaar is not acceptable for proof of date of birth. An official notification in this regard was issued on January 16.
The notification states that Aadhaar, which was considered as a document for determining date of birth, will no longer be considered for that purpose. It is clarified that Aadhaar is an identification document and not a document for verifying the date of birth.
“Some recent court judgments have also strengthened the decision not to consider Aadhaar as a document for determining the date of birth,” the EPFO said in a letter received from the Unique Identification Authority. Aadhaar has been asked to be removed from the accepted documents for proof of date. Accordingly, the new change is being brought in, the circular issued with the approval of the Central Provident Fund Commissioner explains.
The following are the documents to prove the date of birth with effect of Aadhaar waiver decision.
Mark sheet issued by recognized government board or university, SSLC certificate or school transfer certificate with name and date of birth, certificates issued as per service records, PAN card, Central or State pension payment order, permanent residence certificate issued by government, passport, government pension, medical issued by civil surgeon certificate.
