Kochi: Two years after the murder of 10-year-old girl Vaiga, a special court in Ernakulam found the child’s father, Sanu Mohan, guilty on Wednesday. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,75,000. The court has handed over Sanu 28 years of imprisonment for various charges.Charges as per the Juvenile Justice Act, including providing intoxicants to the child with the aim of harming her and abduction were slapped against the accused. The court had earlier found him guilty on all charges. The court deemed the case rarest among the rare as it dealt with filicide.
The case pertains to the murder of Vaiga on 21 March 2021. The body of Vaiga was found in the Muttar River.
The police nabbed the child’s father who had stated that he strangled his daughter Vaiga from their flat and then threw her into the Muttar river.
