MUMBAI: Mumbai Airport’s runway 09/27 has been temporarily closed as Cyclone Biparjoy formed in the Arabian Sea intensified. With this, many flights to Mumbai have been delayed and some have been cancelled, informed the airline companies.
Four flights scheduled to land in Mumbai on Sunday night were diverted to other airports due to the bad weather. As the flights were delayed, many of the passengers indulged in an altercation with the authorities. The airlines said that they were forced to make changes in the schedule due to circumstances beyond their control. Air India tweeted that they are taking efforts to resolve the issue. They also expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the passengers.
As Biparjoy has intensified, high tidal waves witnessed in Mumbai and other coastal areas of Maharashtra. Heavy rain and thunder may occur in the next few hours warned the meteorological department. It is reported that the cyclone is moving towards the Kutch-Saurashtra region of Gujarat.
