KOZHIKODE: ADGP MR Ajith Kumar on Monday said that the police invoked the UAPA against Shahrukh Saifi, the accused in the Elathur train arson case, on the basis of clear evidence. Speaking to the media, the ADGP said that the police have obtained clear evidence which proves that Shahrukh was the one who committed the crime.

The ADGP said that Shahrukh Saifi is a highly radicalized person. “Shahrukh Saifi used to constantly watch videos of people like Zakir Naik and Israr Ahmed. Shahrukh came to Kerala with the plan of committing a crime. We are investigating to find out if he had received help from others. Shahrukh, who is 27 years old, studied till Plus Two,” he said.

The police invoked UAPA against Shahrukh two weeks after taking him into custody. The action comes as the custody period is about to end on Tuesday.
