In a statement released on the previous day, the Kerala government had asserted that the complete ownership of the Travancore house belongs to the state and no one has been entrusted to sell the property. However, this statement turned baseless after a letter forwarded by the state government to the Land and Development Office requesting the ownership certificate of the Travancore house came out.

Resident commissioner of Kerala house in Delhi Sourabh Jain forwarded the letter to the Land and Development Office on December 1, 2021, demanding the lease lead and lease plan of the Travancore House. The documents were asked for submitting to the Development Authority in Delhi to get approval for renovating the building. However, the state government failed to produce the documents. The renovation works were stalled in 2011 and 2016 due to the absence of documents. Later, the state government approached the same office requesting to hand over the documents. This letter has surfaced now.

In 2019, the Kowdiar palace approached the Land and Development Office claiming rights over the Travancore House. Though the Land and Development Office directed the Kerala government to produce the ownership certificate of the property, the state government could not submit it. A final decision over the request of the erstwhile Kowdiar royal family will be taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
