PALAKKAD: The Town South police arrested six people including a woman in the case of stealing gold and money after trapping a businessman in a honey trap. A team led by inspector T Shiju Abraham arrested Devu (24) of Ernakulam Kakkanad Seaport Airport Road, her husband Gokul Deep (29) of Kannur, Sarath (24) of Kottayam Pala Ramapuram, Ajith (20), Vinay (24) and Jishnu (20), natives of Irinjalakuda in Thrissur.
The gang brought the businessman of Irinjalakuda to Yakkara and robbed his money and gold. The businessman escaped from the vehicle while taking him to Kodungallur and filed a complaint at the Town South Station.
The gang snatched four gold chains, car, mobile phone, debit/credit cards, office documents and cash from the businessman. They robbed him threatening after taking his photo and video.
The gang constantly sent messages to the businessman whom they met through Instagram. Sarath spoke to him as a woman. He chatted with her saying that her husband is in the gulf and has only an ailing mother.
When the businessman said that he wants to meet her, he hired Devu and Gokul Deep for rent. Devu and Gokul Deep, active in social media for posting videos have more than 50,000 followers.
Devu later sent voice messages to the businessman. While chatting Sarath told him that his house is in Palakkad. So took a house for rent at Yakkara via online. The businessman was brought to the house in Yakkara and threatened him after posing as moral policing.
Then they tried to rob more money from him after taking him to their flat in Kodungallur in their car. They tried to withdraw more money from his ATM but could not. The statement of the couple is that they will get a commission of Rs 40,000 if the victim is taken to the place mentioned by the gang.
A team led by sub inspectors’ V Hemalatha, M Ajazuddin, S Jaleel, ASI K Krishnaprasad, senior CPOs M Sunil, R Vineesh, K Gopinath, CPOs S Shanos, K Rajesh, K Vinod and M Rajmon nabbed the team.
