KOLKATA: The West Bengal government has decided to remove the Governor from the post of Chancellor of state-run universities. The CM will be replacing the governor as the Chancellor of universities.
The rift between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Governor Jagdeep Dhankar had been intense for the past several months. As part of this, there was an attempt on the part of the state government to curtail the powers of the governor. The decision to remove the Governor from the post of Chancellor was taken by the government sometime back. The Assembly approved this decision today. After the meeting, West Bengal ministers said governments of other states were also planning to make similar moves. The cabinet has not released any other details about this.
