Kerala govt, survivor oppose bail plea of Vijay Babu, HC once again adjourns hearing

Kochi: The state government in the sexual assault case against actor-producer Vijay Babu here on Thursday batted against him for his conduct after being booked in the crime. The Kerala High Court while considering Babu’s anticipatory bail plea had asked the state government and the complainant to convey their stance on the matter.

According to the prosecution, Babu escaped from the ambit of the law and there should not be any mercy for him. The prosecution pointed out that Babu has been dictating terms and that cannot be entertained. It urged the court not to accept his demands. The state government added that it can nab him from anywhere.

Responding to this, the court asked whether it can wait till his arrival to proceed further. It may be noted that since Babu was booked, he is on the run. Reports said he fled to Dubai and from there to Georgia. When his counsel approached for anticipatory bail the HC made it clear that the anticipatory bail plea of the actor-producer in the sexual assault case against him will be considered only if he produces a copy of the flight ticket. Following that, the counsel submitted a copy of his Dubai-Kochi flight ticket dated May 30. The counsel also requested the court to issue anticipatory bail.

However, on Wednesday the court adjourned the matter to Thursday. The latest development comes amid this. The state government has given its stand on the matter and it is learnt that the complainant too has urged the court not to issue him anticipatory bail.

The court has once again adjourned the plea to Friday.
