New Delhi: The protest march led by MPs of UDF to the parliament marking dissent over the SilverLine project turned violent. Delhi police stopped and shoved the protestors who were proceeding towards the parliament house. MPs alleged that the police slapped MP Hibi Eden on face.
Delhi police had blocked the MPs by placing barricades in front of the entrance gate to parliament. The police started to attack after a verbal clash broke out between the MPs and security officials. Police charged at Hibi Eden and TN Prathapan while the other protesting MPs namely Ramya Haridas, ET Mohammed Basheer, Anto Antony, K Muraleedharan and Benny Behanan were manhandled by the police.
MP Rajmohan Unnithan accused that the police were assaulting the UDF MPs who were returning to the parliament after a peaceful protest. Meanwhile, MP Ramya Haridas also pointed out that the male police blocked her without even considering that she is a woman. Following the skirmish, Hibi Eden informed that a complaint will be lodged with the Parliament speaker.
