KOLKATA: Authorities of Missionaries of Charity have rejected the claim of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that their bank accounts were frozen by the Centre. A spokesperson for the Missionaries of Charity said that the organisation was not aware of allegations raised by Mamata.
According to Missionaries of Charity spokesperson Sunita Kumar, the organisation had not received any notification from the central government stating that their bank account had been frozen. She also said that the transactions through the bank were going smoothly.
Earlier, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had alleged that the bank accounts of the charity organisation were frozen by the Centre. ”Shocked to hear that on Christmas, Union Ministry FROZE ALL BANK ACCOUNTS of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in India! Their 22,000 patients & employees have been left without food & medicines,” she tweeted.
