Civilians killed in US drone attacks says Amnesty probe

Two Human Rights organisations that investigated US drone strikes have accused Washington of violating international law by killing civilians.

Amnesty International examined nine drone attacks in Pakistan and said those killed were not involved in fighting and posed no threat. Human Rights Watch said two attacks in Yemen killed civilians indiscriminately. Amnesty International has called upon the US to publicly disclose the facts and legal basis for such attacks.

Pakistan’s own stance in such attacks is quite confusing. Publicly the officials have condemned the use of drone attacks, but behind the scenes things are thought to be very different. Recent UN reports suggest that the Pakistani military was complacent in the use of American drones
