The Centre has said the increase in the price of onions is due to artificial scarcity as the country have enough onion stock .

Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Commerce Minister, Anand Sharma asked the state governments to take firm action against hoarders. He said, the onion prices are expected to stabilize with arrival of kharif crop in the coming days and late kharif crop in December.

Mr. Sharma said the Inflation is a matter of serious concern and it has risen driven up by vegetables like onion and food items.

Asked if the government is considering revising the minimum export price (MEP) of onion, the minister said this time due to the situation, the government has fixed MEP on onion and when the situation will improve, it will revisit the decision.
