New Delhi disappointed over not holding of re-vote of Prez polls in Maldives

New Delhi has expressed deep disappointment over not holding of re-vote of the Presidential elections in Maldives scheduled for today.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said, India and international community have been closely watching the developments in Maldives and are seriously concerned at the attempts to stall the democratic process.

 


He said, keeping in mind the wishes and aspirations of the people of the that country, it is important that the electoral process is put back on track immediately with a definite timeline.

India also called upon the Maldivian government and all parties concerned to fulfill their responsibility towards its people by playing a constructive role in the election process and assisting the Election Commission in holding the Presidential elections without further delay.
