Adoor: As liquor shops remainded closed amid the lockdown, an ambulance driver here turned a mobile mortuary for distillation of arrack. Interestingly, he stored wash (a fermented solution used for making arrack) inside the mobile mortuary. The accused is identified as Puthenveettil Abdul Razack (33), owner and driver of the ambulance.

Police arrested him on Saturday after Adoor DySP B Vinod got information about the illegal arrack distillation. It was informed that Abdul Razack has been illegally making arrack in his home.

A team of police led by CI B Sunukumar and woman SI Nithya Sadhan reached Abdul Razack’s residence at Kannamkodu here.

Civil police officer Sooraj, Praveen and Jayaraj who were in mufti reached Abdul Razack’s old house for purchasing arrack. When they reached there, the accused was busy with arrack distillation. The police seized all equipment from here.

Over 150-litre wash kept inside mobile mortuary was seized following a raid at the old house.

Later police arrested Abdul Razack and his helper Anees (46), a native of Tamil Nadu. Sobin Thampi who was with them managed to flee from the spot.

Apart from the mortuary, 20-litre wash and 10-litre arrack was also seized.
