Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has extended the lockdown in the state to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. With this, the lockdown restrictions will be in place till May 23, informed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Triple lockdown will be imposed in four districts- Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram where the test positivity rate continued to rise.

The government decided to extend the lockdown after various departments including revenue, disaster management authority and police proposed the same in an expert committee meeting.

Meanwhile, the distribution of free food kit will continue in June also. Social welfare pension distribution will be completed soon, informed the CM.
