Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has dismissed the allegations regarding backdoor appointments neglecting PSC, by explaining the statistics of appointments in the public sector in the past years. He criticised the Opposition for staging protest over PSC appointments to defame LDF government ahead of the assembly polls.

Pinarayi Vijayan raised a sharp criticism against former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy for supporting the protest over backdoor appointments.

“Even former CM alleged that backdoor appointments were carried out in the government sector. PSC has published 4,012 rank lists within 4 years and 7 months of LDF government. During the UDF reign, PSC published only 3,113 rank lists,” pointed out CM.

13,825 appointments were carried out in the police department by the LDF government. But the UDF government conducted only 4,791 appointments. During 2016-20, our government carried out 19,120 LDC appointments while only 17,711 LD clerks were appointed during 2011-16. The LDF government has carried out such a huge number of appointments by overcoming the challenges including COVID-19, added the Chief Minister.

He also pointed out that his government has issued 15,7909 advice memos to PSC candidates. 44,000 new posts including 27,000 permanent posts were created. While comparing to the UDF government, the LDF government carried out the highest number of appointments and creation of posts,” said Pinarayi Vijayan while addressing a press meet here.

The LDF government has initiated measures to appoint 13,086 candidates in police service. Last grade rank list validity was extended to April 3. Appointments will be carried out in vacancies reported in April and May, he added.

At the same time, the Chief Minister declared that rank list will not be extended for a longer period.

He pointed out that more candidates should get the chance to appear for the tests. More eligible candidates will be able to get into the service through this process, he added.

The Chief Minister also dismissed the rumours which claimed contract appointments affect PSC rank holders.

“PSC cannot appoint staff in contract-based posts. Contract posts are not identified by PSC. Contract staff are not regularised in any departments or institutions where PSC is entitled to carry out the recruitment. Contract-based recruitment will not affect any rank holder,” explained the Chief Minister.
