Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that a total of 1,55,000 appointments were made through the Public Service Commission (PSC) during the tenure of this government. The PSC enlists about five times more candidates than the actual number of vacancies. So, about 80 percent of the candidates are less likely to be appointed, he added.

The government can only report the vacancies to ensure appointment for the candidates in ranklists. The cabinet meeting decided to take strict action against who fail to report this. A committee including the chief secretary and additional chief secretary of Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department will be formed to ensure the same.

Actions will be taken to avoid reporting of vacancies in case of seniority disputes and other issues. The regularization of temporary staff was not done on the basis of any political recommendations and that this action has not made anyone lose job opportunities, the chief minister said.

None of the candidates included in PSC ranklists has lost their job. The posts in which temporary staff were regularized do not come under PSC. They were regularized on a humanitarian basis as they had over 10 years of service. It was not on the basis of political recommendation and only those who do not have 10 years of service were not included in this, the Chief Minister added.

The previous UDF government had appointed many on the basis of wrong criteria. But LDF government appointed staff only on the basis of proper criteria. The PSC list was expanded on the basis of Narendra Commission recommendations and it has some issues, he said.

There are attempts to mislead the PSC rank holders. PSC prepares a list of 100 candidates even if only 20 employees are required. Though even the last rankholder would be hopeful of getting a job, that can’t be possible, the Chief Minister explained.
