Vijender in 2nd round of World C’ships at Kazakhstan

Star Indian boxer Vijender Singh (75kg) has entered the second round of the World Championships at Almaty, Kazakhstan, today. In his opening bout, he out-punched Sweden’s Hampus Henriksson 3-0. Vijender was the first Indian boxer to win a medal at the mega-event. He took a bronze in the 2009 edition.

Vijender has a tough bout in the next round as he will be facing European champion and world number seven Jason Quigley of Ireland. The duo will square off on Saturday.

Two other Indian boxers who have cleared the first-round hurdle after winning their opening bouts are Vikash
Malik (60kg) and Asian Championships silver-medallist Mandeep Jangra (69kg).

Tomorrow, two Indian boxers will take to the ring, with Manpreet Singh starting his campaign against Keddy Agnes of Seychelles. In the evening session, Manoj Kumar will fight his first bout against Fatih Keles of Turkey.
