4,777 new COVID cases reported in Kerala on Sunday

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 4,777 COVID-19 cases on Sunday, informed Health Minister K K Shailaja.

The district wise distribution of positive cases is: Malappuram – 664, Kozhikode – 561, Thrissur – 476, Ernakulam – 474, Kottayam – 387, Kollam – 380, Thiruvananthapuram – 345, Palakkad – 341, Alappuzha – 272, Kannur – 223, Wayanad – 213, Pathanamthitta – 197, Idukki – 169 and Kasaragod – 75.

51,893 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is at 9.21 percent. So far, 66,08,606 samples were tested in different priority groups.

28 deaths were confirmed in the state on Sunday by NIV Alappuzha. With this, the total number of coronavirus fatalities rose to 2,418.

Out of the total number of positive cases, 84 people came from outside the state. 4,120 people contracted the virus through contact. The virus source of 534 cases has not been identified.

The district wise statistics of contact cases are: Malappuram – 623, Kozhikode – 534, Thrissur – 461, Ernakulam – 360, Kottayam – 386, Kollam – 378, Thiruvananthapuram – 204, Palakkad – 178, Alappuzha – 256, Kannur – 176, Wayanad – 201, Pathanamthitta – 146, Idukki – 145 and Kasaragod – 72.

39 health workers tested COVID positive on Sunday. The district wise cases of COVID positive health workers are: Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode – 6 each, Kannur – 5, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Wayanad – 4 each, Pathanamthitta and Palakkad – 2 each, and Kottayam and Malappuram – 1 each.

5,217 people have recovered from the disease. The district wise statistics of negative cases are: Thiruvananthapuram – 337, Kollam – 336, Pathanamthitta – 172, Alappuzha – 468, Kottayam – 613, Idukki – 64, Ernakulam – 685, Thrissur – 270, Palakkad – 397, Malappuram – 852, Kozhikode – 599, Wayanad – 80, Kannur – 197 and Kasaragod – 107.

Currently, there are 60,924 people undergoing treatment in the state. 5,72,911 people have recovered from the disease.

3,14,400 people are under observation across various districts in the state. Out of this, 2,99,469 people are in home/institutional quarantine and 14,931 people are in hospitals. 1,643 people were taken to hospitals on Sunday.

Three new hotspots were identified in the state on Sunday while one area was removed from the list. In total, there are 446 hotspots in Kerala.
