20 killed in Bihar rail accident

Patna: In Bihar, at least 15 people were crushed to death under the wheels of Saharsa-Patna Rajrani Express at Dhamahra Ghat Railway Station near Saharsa this morning. The victims, mostly kanwarias or devotees of Lord Shiva, were standing on the railway tracks when the train hit them. Eyewitness said that the death toll may rise as more than 2 dozen people were reported to be injured. The injured people have been rushed to the nearby hospitals in Saharsa.

According to sources, the train ran over the people who were getting off a local train at the railway station. There is complete chaos at the accident site as agitating people were holding protest against railway officials in the station. Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway, Amitabh Prabhakar told AIR that additional police forces are being deployed at the station. The train did not have stoppage at Dhamahra station and was running at full speed.
