Thiruvananthapuram: A total of 10,031 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Kerala on Friday. The test positivity rate was recorded at 14.8 percent.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Kozhikode – 1,560, Ernakulam – 1,391, Malappuram – 882, Kottayam – 780, Thiruvananthapuram – 750, Alappuzha – 745, Thrissur – 737, Kannur – 673, Kasaragod – 643, Palakkad – 514, Kollam – 454, Wayanad – 348, Idukki – 293 and Pathanamthitta – 261.

None of the foreign returnees tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 105 people returned from UK, 7 from South Africa and 1 from Brazil tested positive for the virus infection. 109 of them have recovered. So far, 11 patients have been identified with the mutant virus strain.

67,775 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 1,40,81,632 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.

21 deaths were confirmed due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths in the state has touched 4,877. Test results from Alappuzha NIV are awaited to confirm other suspected Covid deaths.

221 of the coronavirus patients came from outside the state. 9,137 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 641 persons remains unidentified.

32 health workers also tested positive for Covid on Friday. Among them, 11 were from Kannur, 5 from Kasaragod, 4 from Thrissur, 3 from Thiruvananthapuram, 2 each from Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam and Wayanad and 1 from Palakkad.

3,792 recoveries were also reported in the state. The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram – 648, Kollam – 80, Pathanamthitta – 156, Alappuzha – 41, Kottayam – 269, Idukki – 123, Ernakulam – 515, Thrissur – 245, Palakkad – 62, Malappuram – 278, Kozhikode – 464, Wayanad – 79, Kannur – 298 and Kasaragod – 534.

There are 69,868 active Covid-19 cases in the state. 11,32,267 people have recovered from the disease. 2,04,933 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 1,95,096 are under home/institutional quarantine and 9,837 people are in hospitals. 1,611 people were taken to hospitals on Friday.

12 new hotspots were identified on Friday while one place was removed from the list. Currently, there are 436 hotspots in the state.
