Treason case: Pak court asks police to produce Musharraf in court today

The special court in Pakistan, hearing the treason case of Pervez Musharraf, has ordered police to produce the former military ruler before it today. In its short order yesterday, the court said that if Musharraf does not appear today‚ it will be compelled to order his arrest. The former President failed to show at the hearing yesterday, citing security threats.

The treason charges on Musharraf relate to his decision in 2007 to suspend the constitution and impose emergency rule. Musharraf denies the charges and says all the accusations against him are politically motivated. He is the first Pakistani former military ruler to face trial for treason. If found guilty, he could be sentenced to death or life in prison. He also faces separate charges of murder and restricting the judiciary.
