KOZHIKODE: Anu murder case accused Mujeeb’s wife tried to destroy crucial evidence moments before police barged into their house for inspection. The police came to Mujeeb Rahman’s house in search of clothes worn by the accused at the time of the murder.

Knowing that the police might come for the clothes, Mujeeb’s wife tried to burn them all. In the CCTV footage, it was earlier found that the pants he was wearing were wet which played vital in changing the course of the investigation. These clothes will be sent for scientific testing.

Just 24 hours after she went missing, Anu’s body was found in a roadside ditch, barely one kilometre from her home. Mujeeb Rahman, a native of Malappuram, was arrested after the locals informed police about seeing a man riding a red bike in suspicious circumstances in the area.

Mujeeb Rahman is a heinous history sheeter according to police. Along with theft and extortion, the accused followed the method of luring women into the vehicle, attacking them, knocking them unconscious, raping them and stealing the gold.

In 2020, in Omassery, an elderly woman was slyly taken in a stolen auto by the accused who then smashed her head into the vehicle’s iron bar leaving her unconscious. Mujeeb then sexually molested her. In the Perambra incident, Anu was knocked unconscious and thrown into the ditch that had knee-deep water.

There are indications that he has committed similar crimes in Wayanad as well. Mujeeb, accused in 60 cases including theft and extortion, was convicted in only a few cases. Mujeeb has 13 cases registered from his hometown of Kondotty.
