Odd-even number scheme to be implemented for resuming private bus service

Thiruvananthapuram: The government issued guidelines for resuming private bus service in the state. The buses can conduct services on alternate days based on odd-even number scheme. Bus services should be operated strictly following Covid protocol, the office of transport minister informed.

The buses with registration numbers ending with an odd digit should conduct services on Friday. Buses with even number can operate services on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and buses with odd number can conduct services on Tuesday and Thursday next week. No bus service is allowed on Saturday and Sunday.

It is pointed out in the guideline that not all buses can operate services at present and the odd-even number scheme was introduced due to this situation. Any change in this system will be considered later, the minister’s office made it clear.

Meanwhile, the Bus Operators’ Association opposed the government direction. They alleged that this system was introduced without any study. Operating services only on alternate days will cause huge loss to them and that this cannot be accepted, the association members said.
