Next two weeks crucial; Ernakulam may clock over 2000 cases today, says Collector

Kochi: Ernakulam Collector S Suhas on Sunday ruled out the possibility of a regional lockdown in Kochi after the district recorded over 2000 Covid cases on Saturday. Speaking to Mathrubhumi News, Suhas said that more Covid treatment centres will be arranged soon.

More ICU beds will be prepared. At present the micro-containment system is effective in the district. Covid situation is very grim in Thrikkakara and Kochi corporation limits, he added.

“The next week is very crucial. The Covid positive persons need to be identified at the earliest, quarantined and treated. More than 36,000 additional tests have been conducted in last two days. The results of over 12,000 tests were released yesterday. We expect more than 2000 positive cases in the district today also,” Suhas further stated.

Ernakulam had reported 2,187 Covid-19 cases on Saturday.
