KOCHI: A 27-year-old woman was sexually abused for days after locking her in a flat in Kochi. The woman who sustained injuries all over her body escaped when her lover went out. The incident happened in March in a flat in Marine Drive, Ernakulam. Although the Ernakulam Central Police registered a complaint against Martin Joseph, a native of Thrissur on the complaint of the woman, they were not able to nab him.
She got acquainted with Martin while working in Ernakulam. This later developed into a close relationship. She decided to stay with him in the flat after she got stuck in the lockdown imposed earlier. They lived like husband and wife for a year. She questioned him knowing his relationship with another woman. He started harassing her brutally after that. He abused her from February 15 to March 8. In the meanwhile, he had shot private parts of the woman. He threatened to expose the video if she goes out or inform about the harassment to anybody.
Her complaint mentioned that he poured chilly water on her eyes, made her drink urine and beat her severely. She escaped from the flat when Martin went out to buy food on April 8. He threatened her again after she lodged the complaint. The woman is hiding in fear of him.
Though the Ernakulam Central Police reached his flat soon after getting the complaint, he had fled the place. They later reached his house in Thrissur but could not find him. The police stayed in the district for a week. The police said Covid and lockdown affected the probe. The accused has approached the court for anticipatory bail.
