LONDON: Prominent businessman and Hinduja Group chairman SP Hinduja (87) passed away in London. He had been unwell for some time. He is the eldest of four Hinduja brothers.Srichand P Hinduja joined the business in 1952 with his father PD Hinduja, the founder of the group. His brothers are Gopichand, Prakash and Ashok. His wife Madhu died in 2023. Their children are Shanu and Vinu.

The Hinduja brothers were accused of taking a huge bribe to get a contract from the Indian government for the Swedish arms manufacturer Bofors. The court acquitted them.

SP Hinduja was born on November 28, 1935. Later he got British citizenship. The Hinduja brothers are the fourth richest in Britain with estimated assets worth 32 billion US dollars.

Along with his brothers, he played an important role in building strong relations between Britain and India. He was generous in spiritual matters and philanthropy.
