Pathanamthitta: The CPM district secretary KP Udayabhanu on Sunday alleged that there are some ‘traitors’ in the district faction of the party and they will be dealt with. He was responding to the criticism against health minister Veena George who hails from the district. He extended support to the minister while attending the area conference here on Sunday.
Earlier, some members at the conference slammed the minister for taking the oath of office in the name of God. Accusing the minister’s critics of being “attracted to parliamentary positions,” district secretary Udayabhanu said there have been personal attacks against Veena since 2016 when the party decided to field her from Aranmula constituency.
“These people tried to defeat her in 2016 and 2021. The party know how to deal with it.”
The critics in the area conference asked how was Veena given an exemption despite being a party member to let her take the oath in the name of God.
“She was elected as an MLA before joining CPM. It will take time for her to endure the party principles,” area secretary M Sajikumar had replied in the conference.
Udayabhanu said that the party is not against any believers.
