Assembly adjourned sine die: Ruling party MLAs slam oppn for holding ‘satyagraha’ inside house

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala assembly was on Tuesday adjourned sine die, much ahead of its original schedule of March 30. Speaker A N Shamseer announced the culmination of the 21-day-long eighth session of the 15th Kerala Assembly, after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan tabled a resolution in the Assembly in this regard.

The ruling party lashed out at the Opposition for declaring an indefinite ‘satyagraha’ in the house as the assembly session proceeded.

Minister for Education V Sivankutty slammed the protest and said it is an unusual one. He criticised the opposition for holding satyagraha and parallel discussions within the house. The protests are being raised after attacking the female watch and ward members of the house, said Sivankutty.

Meanwhile, VK Prasanth MLA condemned the satyagraha as a substandard move of the opposition.MLA Muhammed Muhsin alleged that the UDF is attempting to exploit the assembly by concealing issues within Congress and Muslim League.

The opposition had conducted a press conference against the speaker and burnt his effigy, which is deplorable, observed Speaker AN Shamseer. The Assembly has been witnessing opposition protests since last week against the “restrictions” on moving adjournment motions to discuss certain issues in the House.

When the House assembled in the morning, Leader of Opposition, V D Satheesan announced that five members of the United Democratic Front (UDF) –Anwar Sadath, Kurukkoli Moideen, AKM Ashraf, T J Vinod and Uma Thomas–would stage an indefinite satyagraha in the well of the House against the government, accusing it of not taking steps to ensure the proper functioning of the House.
