Kochi: Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan had planned to open an educational institution abroad, it was disclosed by Swapna Suresh, the accused in gold smuggling case, in her confidential statement. ED informed this in the report filed at the High Court along with the petition.
According to Swapna’s statement, Sreeramakrishnan planned to open a branch of the Oman Middle East College in Sharjah. He met with Sharjah ruler here to obtain free land for the institution. Swapna stated that land was promised in the meeting.
On asked why Speaker was taking such interest in the deal, Swapna said that he has investment in the institution and that they were planning to expand it.
The ED submitted the report on the confidential statements of Swapna and M Sivasankar conducted based on their WhatsApp chats.
